August Member of the Month

Meet our August Member of the Month, a valued member since 2019, who has captured our hearts with their love for Bike Share Toronto. This Annual 30 member adores utilizing our system for short trips, and says using the system is like a fast forward button for running errands and making trips to and from events in the city (we couldn’t agree more!).

Meet Dave,

What station do you consider to be your “home station”? Are there other stations that are key to your use patterns and helping you get around the city?

My home station is tucked in behind the Jones Ave Library (Jones Ave and Mallon Ave.) just a short walk from home  From there I can hop right onto the Dundas E bike lanes to head west towards downtown, our east towards The Beaches. Another key station for me is Bremner Blvd / Rees St. I love biking to and from from Blue Jays games, and this station is right outside of Rogers Centre. I can usually get back to Leslieville after a Jays game in about 25 minutes by Bike Share (it’s over an hour by transit – and forget trying to drive downtown after a game!). It’s easily the best way to get back and forth from events downtown.

What would you consider to be the “local gems” or spots you love to frequent in your community using Bike Share

I like to run in beautiful Tommy Thompson Park, but I don’t like running “to” Tommy Thompson Park. I often use Bike Share to quickly get me down to the park where I can then go for a run and then hop on a bike to get back home. I also often use Bike Share when I’m shopping along The Danforth. I use the bikes as kind of a “fast forward” button when I am running errands there. I also use Bike Share when I am heading down to The Distillery District or St Lawrence Market. The new Esplanade and Mill Street Connection makes biking down there really comfortable, and there are tons of Bike Share stations to use.

What do you love the most about using Bike Share and what value do you find in using the system?

What I love using most about Bike Share is the convenience. I absolutely love that wherever I am in the core, I can reasonably assume there will be a bike around that I can use whenever I want. I really am grateful that we have this system here.

What made you start riding with Bike Share?

I became a Bike Share user when I first started winter cycling. I was hesitant to use my own bike in bad weather, and I didn’t want to feel forced to keep riding my own bike if conditions were really poor. Bike Share bikes were the perfect solution for me. Big tires, lights that always worked, and a nice, upright riding position for icy roads and bike lanes. Using Bike Share allowed me to make a choice about biking in bad weather without having to worry about leaving my own bike somewhere. Plus, I didn’t have to worry about any of the maintenance!
