It’s a pedal assist bike that has been equipped with an electric motor and a rechargeable battery to help the user pedal. Electric assistance is automatically activated by pedaling. The maximum pedal assist speed is set to 25 km/h. Users are required to wear helmets when riding an e-bike as per Government regulations

The number of e-bikes in circulation throughout the system is limited to the system's current charging capacity. As we expand our e-bike fleet, it's important to note that due to charging, maintenance and repair, not all e-bikes will be out in the system at the same time for use. This means more or less half are in circulation at any given time while the rest are being charged. E-bikes should be easier to locate as they are added into the system.

Unlocking an e-bike requires users to initiate the exact same process as unlocking any other bike in the Bike Share Toronto system. Therefore, there are three ways a user can rent an e-bike:

1) PBSC app. On the system map, stations containing available, docked e-bikes will be marked with a white lightning bolt within a small black circle.

2) Using an Annual Membership key.

3) Generating a 5-digit code from a station kiosk.

As a cyclist, you must share the road with others (e.g., cars, buses, trucks, motorcycles, etc.). Under Ontario's Highway Traffic Act (HTA), a bicycle is a vehicle, just like a car or truck.

Cyclists:

Must obey all traffic laws

Have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers

Cannot carry passengers - if your bicycle is only meant for one person

All riders are required to wear a helmet while riding an e-bike in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

Renting an e-bike is always charged at the Pay As You Go pass rate:

• $1 unlock fee + $0.20 per minute of ride time

Annual Membership holders pay 50% less per minute and don't not need to pay an unlock fee:

• No unlock fee + $0.10 per minute of ride time

Riders are also charged a $50 deposit for every bike or e-bike they rent. The deposit will be refunded into their account within 20 days.

E-bikes will charge overnight and will only be available to pull from a dock if they have more than 20% battery charge. If the e-bike has 20% battery or less, the user will be unable to release it from the dock. Pedal assist e-bikes can be recharged in the field at designated electric bike charging stations or at an off-site facility overnight during off-peak hours.

Same as Bike Share which is perfect for short trips around town. Riders use bike share for commuting to work or leisure—like running errands, going to appointments or meeting up with friends. Many bike share stations are at close proximity to subway stations, bus terminals or public transportation. Others use bike share simply for exercise or exploring the city.

The electric, pedal assist bikes, called E-FITs, are engineered and designed by PBSC. E-FITs have a central motor with a battery fully integrated in the aluminum frame. The maximum pedal assist speed is set to 25 km/h. The E-FITs meet all safety required as outlined in Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act. Users are required to wear helmets when riding an e-bike as per Government regulations. It's the law.
