July Member of the Month

Welcome to this month’s edition of Member of The Month! Say hi to Cristina, an Annual 45 member who trains for triathlons in her spare time and uses our Bike Share system for leisure rides.

Meet Cristina,

What station do you consider to be your “home station”? Are there other stations that are key to your use patterns and helping you get around the city?

When I first started using Bike Share, I rode from Yonge and Hillsdale to Regent Park Blvd and back, but now my former destination is my new home station! The other stations I use are mainly along the Waterfront Trail, King Street, Bloor Street, and Yonge Street.

What would you consider to be the “local gems” or spots you love to frequent in your community using Bike Share

After moving to the east side of downtown, I’ve been having an amazing time exploring all the great neighbourhoods around here. Distillery District and the St. Lawrence Market are the best-known local gems around here, but some other great spots include Corktown Common, Underpass Park, Allan Gardens, Riverdale Farm, and the new Cabbagetown Parkscape.

I can’t forget to mention the beaches as a local gem. If you see someone biking in a swimsuit and shorts, it’s probably me headed down to Cherry Beach for a swim.

My all-time favourite spot is Tommy Thompson Park, where one of the best dates I’ve ever been on was a Bike Share ride all the way out the lighthouse!

What do you love the most about using Bike Share and what value do you find in using the system?

I love having access to a regular commuting bike without having to worry about the cleaning, maintenance, and parking. I dock my bike after my ride, and Bike Share takes care of the rest. The flexibility of Bike Share allows me to bike to a shop and take transit back if I have a lot to bring home (though I’ve been surprised with how much I could fit on a bike).

What made you start riding with Bike Share?

I started using Bike Share this past winter to get to and from my morning swims, as it’s a great way to save money and add exercise to my commute. As I explored different neighbourhoods, I really felt more like a part of the city. Now I’m using Bike Share for most of my trips around Toronto, whether for fun or errands!

Another fun fact about myself: When I’m not cycling using Bike Share, I’m on my personal bike training for triathlons. Easy-going Bike Share commutes actually help me flush out my legs after a hard workout.

We love having you ride with us Cristina and wish you the best in your triathlon trialing! For your chance to be featured as our Member of the Month, tag us on social media using #BikeShareTO and you could receive a DM from us.

Next time you explore Toronto, do it from a seat of a bike, grab a pass, and get riding!
