Another year in the books and what a year it was for Bike Share Toronto! From record ridership, new ways to help you get riding faster, an expanded system, and so much more! We celebrated new milestones which we are thrilled to have shared with our incredible community. Let’s take a look back on what we accomplished together…
A whopping 4.6 MILLION trips in 2022!
It was a busy year that pedaled us to new heights for Bike Share. Through all seasons, our riders showed up and showed love for Bike Share with more memberships sold than ever before, and more new users discovering the benefits of how Bike Share can really move you through the city, whether to connect you to transit, get you to your meeting on time, or simply for the joy of riding on two wheels. Here are some major ridership milestones we saw last year:
A record 4.6 MILLION TRIPS shattered our previous record of 3.5 million trips that was set in 2021! More Torontonians are discovering the beauty of bike sharing and have adapted the Bike Share system as a vital part of Toronto’s transportation ecosystem. If you rode with us, we’re thrilled you found the bike lane and we hope to see you in the saddle in 2023!
In 2023, we changed the game on how you get riding. A new customer experience for our riders hit the streets, making the system completely accessible from the bikesharetoronto.com website on mobile.
August saw the launch of the new mobile website, where riders can purchase all pass types, unlock bikes with ride codes and manage account details in one central location. And the kicker? The experience of purchasing a pass and unlocking a bike takes less than a minute – super easy!
It’s the quicker and easier way to get riding and brings the power of a traditional Bike Share kiosk into the palm of your hand. In addition to the mobile website, unlocking bikes can still be done through the PBSC app, key card and station kiosk.
We’re always looking for ways to make riding easier for our users and improve the system, so if you haven’t already, we encourage you to use the mobile website to bike in 2023!
Summer was an exciting time for Bike Share Toronto as we introduced an electrifying new look for the beloved e-bikes (pun intended!). All e-bikes have a striking lightning bolt, making them instantly recognizable throughout the city. Not only was there a new look, but we introduced 225 more e-bikes to the system as part of the plan to further electrify the fleet and get our riders on e-bikes.
The good news doesn’t stop here! By 2025, we’ll have 2,000 e-bikes – that’s 20% of our entire fleet! Who’s felt the boost the e-bikes propel? It makes for a fun ride!

If you’ve been with us from the beginning, you know we’ve come a long way since we first launched in 2011 with only 80 stations and 1,000 bikes. We are currently North America’s fourth largest public bike sharing system and have our sights set high with an ambitious and exciting plan moving into 2023 and beyond!
In September, the Toronto Parking Authority presented to the Board of Directors Bike Share Toronto’s Four Year Growth Plan and got the green light. This growth plan outlines system expansion spanning to 2025. The addition of 325 stations will continue to expand the system, while adding 3,150 more bikes to the fleet. Once fully implemented, the system will have at least 1,000 stations, and 10,000 bikes – 2,000 of which will be pedal assist e-bikes. You can also expect Bike Share stations to be present in all of Toronto’s 25 wards by 2025!

You helped us kick off the winter season strong and end 2022 with a bang! So far, we’ve seen record ridership this winter, while averaging the level of usage we typically see in the fall months! Did you know in December we achieved 180,000 trips? Even in winter, Torontonians are discovering the beauty of bike sharing and how biking is fast, reliable and convenient winter transportation.
To round things off, throughout the year, we had many events, memorable highlights and partnerships. Let’s take a look season by season.
